Dr. Sam Richards is a Board-Certified Maxillofacial Prosthodontist, focused on providing compassionate, competent, and quality rehabilitative dental care to all of his patients.
Dr. Richards earned the degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from the University of Maryland, School of Dentistry in 2012. Passionate about the dental discipline of restorative/prosthetic dental treatment, he went on to obtain a certificate in Prosthodontics as well as a Master of Science degree from the University of Maryland’s Advanced Specialty Education in Prosthodontics Residency Program in 2015. Upon completing graduate and post-graduate training, he entered active duty service as a Dental Officer for the United States Navy, and has been stationed in Bethesda, MD and Norfolk, VA.
As a Prosthodontist, he serves as the dental team’s subject matter expert in the diagnosis, treatment planning, rehabilitation, and maintenance of the oral function, comfort, cosmetics, and health of patients with missing or deficient teeth. He is skillfully trained in all restorative therapies, including cosmetic veneers, dental implants, crowns, bridges, dentures, all-on-x and sleep appliances.
Throughout his training and dental career, Dr. Richards has worked for many patients affected by head and neck cancer, dental and facial trauma, and congenital anomalies of the teeth and jaws. With a special interest in serving this unique patient population, Dr. Richards completed an additional one-year sub-specialty fellowship in Maxillofacial Prosthetics & Dental Oncology at the Naval Postgraduate Dental School, Bethesda, MD.
Dr. Richards is active in his profession in education and service. His educational experience includes serving as Assistant Program Director of six Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD) and General Practice Residency (GPR) graduating cohorts as well as faculty and clinical instructor to the Naval Postgraduate Dental School’s Postgraduate Prosthodontics Residency Program. He currently serves as the Program Director of the school’s Maxillofacial Prosthetics Fellowship Program and often returns to the residency program to provide lectures, staff cases, and conduct mock board examinations. He has lectured at numerous nationally-recognized forums, to include the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics (AAMP), covering a range of topics from Implant Occlusion, Guided Implant Surgery, and Digital Advances in Maxillofacial Prosthodontics.
Dr. Richards is a Diplomate of the American Board of Prosthodontics (ABP), a Fellow of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), an Associate Fellow of the American Academy of Maxillofacial Prosthetics (AAMP) and currently serves as President of the American College of Prosthodontists (ACP), Maryland Chapter.
